I haven't personally used the product. After watching a few youtube videos on the product, I realized that these can be the areas where we can improve.
Improvements
- Trending themes can be used to increase the customer retention. Customers can feel that the app is unique and evolving based on the current market trend. For instance: Using themes based on movie/TV series trends. (Game of Thrones theme, Frozen theme for kids, classical Friends theme)
- We can provide users with a `rewarding` experience by using the theme designs. For Eg: Let's say the user has selected the CoronaVirus theme, in this case whenever a user achieves a milestone in the workout, we can show animation of a virus getting killed. (instead of the red-dot getting highlighted in the existing default theme). Users always need constant motivation while working out and this rewarding experience will provide the same.
- Age filtering in the workout section (or based on profile info) for users to find a workout recommended for their age group.
Opportunities:
- Personalized Suggestions - The app has 100s of workouts (maybe ever increasing). For few super-engaged customers, who know what they exactly want, it is easy to quickly shortlist a workout. But for the majority of the applications, super-engaged customers are less than 20%. Most of the other users would like the app to help them workout. Personalization and recommendation can be a key to convert and retain most of such users. Based on users data and app interaction history, we would know what our users currently need and predict the future needs. We could tap this data to create various personalized workout carousels/slider designs on the home screen. This will build loyalty and enhance the user engagement.
- Collaboration - On the stats page, there can be a collaboration tab which helps the users to compete with their friends and family. I feel, in a fitness app, one of the most important things is to retain and engross customers, and to keep them motivated. Self-motivation for many users can be challenging, the App constantly has to provide unique motivations and rewards externally. By incorporating collaboration tab in the design, apart from being a fun experience, users connections will keep the user self motivated.
- Following - The current workout catalog is great.
An interesting user story I thought of ->
As a user if I follow a celebrity, I should be able inherit their workout catalog.
Instagram proved that celebrity endorsements and followings can organically increase traffic on the app. Celebrities interaction design in the app would drive users to follow their workout routine.
